"What are the key factors in raising achievement in a school?"
Task 1

A group presentation of about 30" [about 6 people, all members must take part in the presentation] on "an action plan for school improvement". The presentation is part of a problem based learning activity and will be assessed using an assessment matrix which will include:

  • self-assessment (20%)
  • peer assessment (20%)
  • tutor assessment (60% [split 60% on presentation and 40% resource pack])

There is a range of options for the focus of the problem based learning task and you will be expected to draw on the range of theoretical materials you have been exposed to as part of the FiPS course. More details can be found in the Problem Based Learning section of the website.

You may choose from the following:

    1. Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

    2. English as a second (additional) language

    3. Pupil Premium

Task 2

You will meet with your group on a number of occasions where you can plan your work

  • whole cohort presentations and chance to begin planning
  • in seminars
  • meeting with tutor to continue to plan and to discuss the essay part of the task
  • meet independently with your group (tutors available)
  • doing the presentation

Task 3

In your presentation will be expected to include:

  • A theoretical / educational justification for your ideas
  • A practical plan including key actions, success criteria, time scales and resource needs (human and material)
  • A case study of 1 or 2 of the students using the data provided
  • A pack of resources as appropriate
    • This should include any resources that support and expand on your ideas, for example timetable, support materials, structural or policy changes, academic evidence or references.
  • You will have 30" for your presentation
    • 5" for setting the context
    • 15" to outline your development plan
    • 5" for conclusions and summary
    • 5" for questions
