You have access to the university library resources which have a large range of eBooks and electronic journal resources (see the list below); use the Education and Childhood studies starting point.

Two useful portal resources are Proquest and EBSCO. You will need to use your Hull username and password to access these.

EPPI - Evidence for Policy and Practice Information and Co-ordinating Centre : The EPPI-Centre is committed to informing policy and professional practice with sound evidence. As such, it is involved in two main areas of work: Systematic reviews and Research Use. go to site

EPPSE - In 1997 Effective Pre-School, Primary and Secondary Education (EPPSE) was instigated as the UK’s first major study to focus on the effectiveness of early years education. More than 3,000 children were assessed at the start of pre-school (at approximately three years old) and their development monitored as they entered school until they made their post-16 education, training or employment choices.

Evidence for the Frontline - Evidence for the Frontline (E4F) is a support service for schools. Staff submit questions and are given advice by a researcher, matched with evidence resources, or put in touch with another school with relevant experience to help them to answer that question. go to site
IEE - Institute for Effective Education: We conduct rigorous evaluations of education programmes and practices. NFER: National Foundation for Educational Research "on the web": The latest issue of On the Web, is now available. Research Ed: researchED is a grass-roots, teacher-led organisation aimed at improving research literacy in the educational communities, dismantling myths in education, getting the best research where it is needed most, and providing a platform for educators, academics, and all other parties to meet and discuss what does and doesn't work in the great project of raising our children. go to site
Research Rich Schools: In December 2014, the National College for Teaching and Leadership commissioned a group of 15 teaching school alliances from across the country to develop a framework or ‘typology’ of R&D roles and research activities. The collaborative project has involved the active contribution of all participants, coordinated by the RSA Academies Teaching School Alliance. go to site

Teaching and Learning Academy: The Research for Teachers contains more than 50 summaries, each appraised, selected and produced for the GTCE's Research for Teachers series by the Centre for the Use of Research and Evidence in Education (CUREE). go to site

TTRB3: is a web based resource for teacher educators, mentors and their trainees or students. It is also very useful for teachers, the wider school workforce and associated education professionals. It aims to make available the evidence base for teacher education and professional development and this includes research and policy on teaching and learning.

Usable Knowledge: Usable Knowledge is an online resource from the Harvard Graduate School of Education that aims to make education research and best practices accessible to educators and policymakers at all levels. go to site
What Works Clearinghouse: The goal of the WWC is to be a resource for informed education decision making. To reach this goal, the WWC identifies studies that provide credible and reliable evidence of the effectiveness of a given practice, program, or policy (referred to as “interventions”), and disseminates summary information and reports on the WWC website. go to site

Each subject or area will have its own research journals you need to be aware of these and to use these as core sources for your work. You might start by contacting your subject associations many of these have various levels of journal access from peer-review academic journals to more subject focussed. The journal is interdisciplinary in approach, and includes reports of case studies, experiments and surveys, discussions of conceptual and methodological issues and of underlying assumptions in educational research, accounts of research in progress, and book reviews. British Journal of Educational Studies

The journal is one of the UK's foremost international education journals. It publishes scholarly, research-based articles on education which draw particularly upon historical, philosophical and sociological analysis and sources. There is a special, but by no means exclusive, focus upon policy developments in Britain. The greatest number of submissions are about schools and schooling but the journal also encourages writing that deliberates policy for further, adult, continuing and higher education. The journal also has a comprehensive book review section.

Curriculum

The Curriculum Journal is written for those professionals in the education services wishing to influence future directions in education for the better. It provides a much-needed forum for debate, publishing research into curriculum structure, organization and development in primary and secondary schools and further education.

The journal is written for teachers and head teachers, advisors, managers and academics. It features articles on the whole curriculum, cross-curricular issues, assessment requirements and new approaches to teaching and learning.

Cambridge Journal of Education

This journal is an international English language journal, publishes original refereed articles on all aspects of education with a particular emphasis on work that contributes to shared understanding among academic researchers, theorists, practising teachers, policy-makers and educational administrators. Its readers include members of each of these groups - evidence of its success in bringing together those who determine the content, organisation, and practice of education.

Educational Research

Educational Research, the journal of the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER), was established in 1958. Drawing upon research projects in universities and research centres worldwide, it is the leading international forum for informed thinking on issues of contemporary concern in education.

The journal is of interest to academics, researchers and those people concerned with mediating research findings to policy makers and practitioners.

Educational Review

The journal is a leading journal for generic educational research and scholarship. For over half a century it has offered authoritative reviews of current national and international issues in schooling and education. It publishes peer-reviewed papers from international contributors which report research across a range of education fields including curriculum, inclusive and special education, educational psychology, policy, management and international and comparative education.

Education Studies

The journal aims to provide a forum for original investigations and theoretical studies in education. The journal publishes fully refereed papers which cover applied and theoretical approaches to the study of education and its closely related disciplines. Papers should constitute original research, and should be methodologically sound, theoretically informed and of relevance to an international audience. The journal is particularly interested in research that aims to inform educational practice(s) within and/or across sectors.

Journal of Education for Teaching

Journal of Education for Teaching (JET) publishes original contributions on the subject of teacher education.
